More thoughs on SPN
May. 1st, 2009 11:07 amAll right, have had time to calm down over last night's episode and to clarify, it was not the Castiel-centric ep that bothered me (I thought that was great) but more the overall feeling of the season in regards to Sammy. Now, I like Dark!Sammy as much as the rest of you, but I can't help but feel that his darkness in this season is pointless. I don't know if this is because the majority of the episodes these days are about Dean, and all we see of Sammy's addiction is flashes and what Dean and the angels know and all that, or what.
I keep going back to S6 of Buffy when Willow went evil. I remember being shocked, but it made sense to me. It had been building since S1 really, when she kept doing magical things without Giles' supervision adn whatnot. It built up over 6 years and we saw the progression of her abilities, so that when Tara was murdered it made sense that she would snap and fall into darkness. And I trust Joss Whedon to have an over-arching reason, and that belief was justified in the series Finale.
And yes, we've gotten hints of dark!Sammy all along, but it just seems that this season they're overdoing it a lot. I think we needed more flashbacks of the summer without Dean, or more conversations with him and Ruby, or just MORE SAMMY in general to really understand his motivation. Cuz right now he just seems like a junkie and i hate people who fuck with characterization!
Thoughts? I may have rambled on, and not made sense and I have more thoughts I just don't know what they are yet, and just in general I am dissatisfied with this season and I need it to be made okay. And just. If Season 5 is Sammy vs Dean/Castiel I don't think I'll watch until it is all over. IDEK you guys. DNW SAMMY VS DEAN AT ALL! :(
