My Weekend

So, this weekend I went to Denmark (the city, not the country) to visit my friend Crystal, and our friends Cindy and Jess from Boston came up as well and it was all a very good time. I went on Friday, and Cindy and Jess arrived on Sat.

Friday was pretty tame, Crys’ mother cooked up a great big dinner (rigatone, ravioli, breadsticks, cheesecake, wine) and stuffed us full, and then we watched a movie (called THREE and it was very good, but confusing. It starred Riley (of Buffy fame) as a guy with 3 personalities (though that was supposed to be a ‘surprise’ but dude, I figured it out from the title.) And then we went to bed fairly early because we are boring and old.

Saturday Crys and I got up at about 9:00 (neither of us are able to sleep past that hour anymore for some reason) and took showers, had breakfast (English muffins with peanut butter! Yum!) and took her dog for a walk. Then we watched the other movie we’d rented (The Gathering with Christina Ricci. It was fairly okay and very biblical and premonitiony as well) before having a light lunch (salad for her, cereal for me) and making the hour drive to Portland to pick up Cindy and Jess.

We had lunch at UNOs (I had a steak and it wasn’t very good. I should have had the pizza like everyone else. *frowny face*. We split one of those cookie sundaes and it was delicious.) and then went to Portland Headlight to explore the forts (very cool, would make a great setting for a SPN fic.) and check out the lighthouse. We spent about three hours there, hiking the trails and sitting out at the ocean. Very fun.

We then made the 6:50 showing of Knocked Up, which I might say, is probably my new favorite movie. The actors were all adorable, and the jokes were amazing and funny. Katherine Heigel is an amazingly talented actress, and is wasted on Gray’s. We all enjoyed it very much, and it will definitely be joining my movie shelf when it’s out on DVD.

When the movie got out it was only 9:15ish so we had a quick, late dinner and headed for the clubs. It was only about 10:00 when we reached the Old Port section of Portland, so we spent about fifteen, twenty minutes finding the best place to park (away from the ‘bad section’ but close enough to the clubs so we wouldn’t forget where we parked) and then walked around and stopped at Condom Sense, because no trip to Old Port is complete without one.

The first club we went to was called the Iguana, which is always fun because the bartenders try to be all Tom Cruise in Cocktails and totally fail. The total broken bottles of alcohol that night was five, and we only stayed about an hour. Cindy, Crys and I each at 2 rum & cokes, and Jess had 2 Coronas. So we were feeling pretty good as we went up to Liquid Blue for dancing. The cover charge was $3 but some random dude paid for us to go in, and let us keep the change. It was classic.

We headed for the bar and Cindy, Crys and I got sex on the beaches, and Jess had another Corona. Then we proceeded to dance. Cindy immediately found some dude to dance with, but Jess, Crys and I are all involved so we just had fun dancing together. We each had two tube shots (I think it was mostly fruit juice, but you never know with those things) while dancing. The music was great. Mostly 80’s rock, which was awesome. I’m not a big fan of techno or rap, and I find 80’s music much easier to dance to.

It’s such a completely different experience going out when you have a boyfriend. There is no pressure people and it is lovely. I was wearing jeans and a tank top and didn’t even care if I looked like a fat cow, because I knew that my cop was waiting for me (although I won’t see him until Monday). It was great. I ran into two high school friends as well, who I hadn’t seen since graduation six years ago. So we chatted (as much as one can in a dance club) and exchanged business cards (how cool is that? I love being a grown up!) and will have lunch this week.

We finally left the club around 1 (clubs close early in Maine) and headed back to the car. Crystal was okay to drive, so we let her drive the hour back to her place, where we all just crashed. I was up early because laying down gave me the spins (but I wasn’t sick, so YAY! I can still say I’ve never thrown up after drinking! Score for me!) and hung out with Crystal’s dog in the living room. Crys got up not long after, and we had breakfast and showered while waiting for Cindy and Jess to get up. They got up around 9ish, and Jess went for a run while Cindy took a shower.

Once everyone was ready we headed out for Lost River in NH. Lost River is a little glacier park that has caves and hiking trails and is totally fun. We spent the day there, climbing in caves and trying not to freak out because some of the spaces were so small. There was one that I seriously did not think anyone over six could fit through, but Jess is fearless and went for it, and made it. I did not though, because Jess is tiny and I am not, and even Crystal who is like a size 8 didn’t want to try it. So we let Jess be the brave one on that front. It was totally fun though. My favorite cave was one where you ahd to climb down like 100 feet and then crawl through a dark passage and then it opened up and you could see the sky above and it was all cave around you. Totally awesome. Unfortunately Cindy dropped her camera so we have no idea if the pictures will come out. If they do I shall post as soon as she e-mails them to me.

We ended the day at a seafood restaurant where we had lobster rolls (delicious) and French fries (or chips for my British pals). We stopped at the Old Navy outlet shops and I got three new shirts and a cute outfit for my cousin’s daughter who turned 2 today. We’re having her party next week, so I’ll give them to her then. The shirt is green and says “SASSY” which is perfect, because she (the daughter) says, “I’m sassy” all the time. It’s adorable.

So, that was my weekend. It was fun and exciting and I tried new things, so I’m proud of myself. We’re planning another weekend for later this summer for the beach, so that’s fun. Boyfriends get to come this time, so Matt will be pleased with me. He was jealous he couldn’t come along, but I explained that he didn’t want to spend a whole weekend with four women who hadn’t been together in a group in a year or more. He would have been totally ignored. Good for carrying packages though, and punching unwelcome attention at the clubs. But Crys and I did that well enough on our own. (Not with punching, of course). But he still pouted at me last week. Men are babies.

And since this is now officially a novel, I will stop. *nods*
