Phases (Larry/Xander)

Notes: This is sort of a 2nd Season AU, where Jesse never died and he's dating Cordelia, not Xander. Everything else though follows canon.

Part One:

Sunnydale, 1997

Xander could have kicked himself. In fact, he was trying his best, but couldn't quite manage to reach his foot up to his ass. What the hell had he been thinking, taking on Larry  Blaisedell on his own. Granted, he come out of the confrontation without being beat black and blue and no new scars, if he didn't count the emotional ones.

Xander couldn't quite grasp what had just happened. He'd gone into the situation certain he would come out of it knowing for certain who the werewolf was. Instead he'd just been kissed.

Larry Blaisedell had kissed him! "Oh god!" Xander slumped against his locker, shoulder's drooping, head banging harshly against the metal. "Oh god!"

"Xander?" Willow's soft voice tore him out of his reverie. "Are you all right?"

"What?" Xander couldn't meet Willow's eyes. "Oh, yeah. I'm off the good!" Xander opened his locker and started frantically packing his bag. "Look, I gotta go. My mom is cooking dinner and if I'm not there to watch her she might burn down the house." Xander grabbed for his jacket and slammed the locker shut. "And then my dad will pull the 'Son I'm very disappointed in you' face that I hate so much and that would be of the not so good." Xander turned back around to face Willow. "So, bye Willow!" He rushed down the hall towards the exit. He just couldn't face Willow now that they'd both kissed boys.

And liked it.

"Oh god!"

                                                           * * * *

Larry smiled to himse as he unlocked the door to his house. He had never felt more alive than he did at this moment. Not even when his team won the state football championship this year.

Who'd known that admitting to someont other than himself and his parents that he liked guys would be so liberating. And to have shared his first real kiss with the guy he'd been crushing on since middle school made it all the sweeter.

Larry sighed as he replayed his kiss with Xander in his mind. The feel of the otehr boy's lips, soft yet firm and so warm. Different from kissing Cordelia or Joan or any of the other girls he'd been with. It was, better, with Xander. Realer.

Larry walked into the kitchen and saw his mother standing at the stove, stirring a pot of something that smelled good. "Smells good, Ma!"

"Thanks honey. So, how was school?"

"It was good. Very good!"

"That's nice dear. Dinner is in an hour."

"Thanks, Ma. I'm going up to my room."

Larry grabbed a bottle of water and an orange and headed up to his room. He grabbed the portable phone from the hall and closed the door behind him. He had a Xander-shaped boy to call.

                                                                    * * *

Xander lay motionless on his bed, trying not to think about what had happened in the locker room. Trouble was, it was all he could think about. The way Larry had gently stroked his thumb over his cheek. The way Larry's tongue had shyly asked entrance to his moth. The way--

"Argh!" Xander groaned, rolling onto his stomach to try to stop his burgeoning erection. "I'm not gay!"

 "Is this a bad time, Alexander?"

Xander groaned. Hyst what he needed, his mother. But maybe she had some advice he could use. He'd even take one of her "You gotta be free Alexander. Be yourself, love yourself" talks she loved to give.

Xander rolled over onto his back and sat up. "Mom, I've got something I need to talk to you about."

"Something about not being gay?" Jessica Harris sat next to herself and continued, "You know, Alex, there is nothing wrong with finding members of your own sex attractive. It's perfectly normal to want to express that attraction in a physical way. Why, once or twice when I was in college, I had healthy sexual relationships with--"

"Mom! For god's sake don't finish that sentance!" Xander jumped up from the bed and began pacing, fiddling absently with the friendship bracelet Jesse had given him 7th grade. "Ok, so today I had a bit of a misunderstanding with a guy at school. See, Willow, Buffy, Jesse and I are trying to figure out who the we..weather guy for the school paper is going to be. I thought for sure it was going to be this guy from the football team so I pulled him aside after gym class so I could ask him. Only he thought I was talking about being gay, and came out to me and then he kissed me and I didn't know what to do because I liked it but I am not gay so I ran away, only now he thinks I'm gay, but I'm not and--Mom, why are you laughing?"

"Breathe, Alex. And calm down before you have a heart attack. It's ok that you liked kissing a guy. It's perfectly normal adn I think you should give Larry a chance. He seems much nicer than that Buffy Summers you've been panting after lately."

Xander looked at his mother in shock. "How did you--"

"Know his name was Larry?" Xander nodded. "He called a little bit ago but had to get his call waiting before I could tell you. He left his number and would like you to call him back." She handed over a piece of paper. "Here you go. Now, dinner is in an hour, plenty of time to call Larry and ask him out for an ice-cream or something. Perhaps you could even call Cordelia and Jesse and go on a double date."

Jessica gave a stunned Xander a hug and then retreated from the room.

"Oh god!" Xander moaned, flopping on the bed. "Oh god!"

                                                                   * * *

Larry frowned at the phone. Why wasn't it ringing? He picked it up and checked the dial tone to make sure that the phone line hadn't accidently been disconnected. It hadn't. Had Xander's mom forgotten to tell Xander he had called? Was Xander busy with his friends? Or did he just not like Larry enough to call him back?

Larry sincerly hoped it wasn't the case. He didn't think it was. Xander had been as into the kiss as Larry had been. And it had been Xander, not Larry, who had started the tongue thing. So Xander was probably just waiting for after dinner to call. Yeah, that was probably it.

Larry rushed through dinner and then retreated back to his room to try doing homework adn not think about Xander calling.

Larry was busy studying (last year's yearbook) when the phone finally rang.

"I got it!" Larry yelled before picking up the phone and saying, "Hello?"

"Umm...Larry? Hi, it's well, it's me. Xander. Is this a bad time, cause I can call back later. I mean, you're probably busy so--"

"Xander man, slow down. Take a breath. No, I'm not busy. I was hoping you'd call."

"You were? I mean, I would have thought that you had better things to do than wait by the phone, waiting for me to call."

"I--"

"Not aht I think you're a loser or anything. You're not. You're a football star, so of course you're not a loser. Not that being a football star is your only claim to coolness. Of course not. You're--"

Larry listened with half an ear to what Xander was saying, focusing mostly on the adorable way Xander's voice rose and fell with nerves and embarassment. Finally, Larry broke into Xander's stream of babble and said, "Xan, you want to go get an ice cream or something?"

Silence.

Four long minutes of silence where Larry thought for sure he'd scared Xander away and then-

"Sure."

The last thing Larry heard before hanging up the phone was Xander moaning, "Oh god!"

Aw! That was cute! High school Larry and Xander.

Also, I'm not freakish about this, but a lot of people are. When you post long stuff, especially fics, you should use LJ cut tags. That sort of creates an internal link for people to click and the story itself comes up in a different page. Does that even make sense? Oy. Incoherent Manty trying to give directions after partying and sleeping all of 10 hours all weekend. Cute. Go to the Help option on your little menu up at the top of the page and go to FAQs. You can find all kinds of codes there. Look in the section about journal entry questions.

Ooh I feel so LJ-worldly!

it made kinda sense. i'll go study the codes and try to make sense of them. i am not at all savvy (oohh...PoTC slashy thoughts here) to codey things...but I was thinking it was kinda a long post for the first page and had the thought: i wonder how people link to other pages. So, i will go learn. Thanks manty-panty!
