Spander Inquistion Fic (finally!) "When Angels Cry"

Title: When Angels Cry

Author: Sparky

Rating: PG-13 (sorry! I tried for some sexiness, but it didn't work out. So, instead, we have major schmoopyness!)

Notes: For the Spander Inquistion for Diurnal Lee who wanted action/adventure, set during the span of BtVS/Angel or in the verynear future, with a surprising spin on something canon (beyond the S/X, of course *grins*)Don't: extended, depressing introspection Rating: any.

Notes the Second: This fic didn't end up exactly the way you wanted, I tried for light and fluffy, but my Spander!Muses wanted something a little heavier. I hope you're not disapointed!

Notes the Third: Occurs after an AU S4 (in which Spike never fell for Buffy, Xander and Spike started sleeping together in the basement, Spike was blackmailed into helping Adam, but found a way to help the Scoobies without Adam knowing. Everything else happened as written.) Set post S5 (everything is the same, except for the Spike/Xander part). AU after "The Gift", S6 and S7 didn't happen.

Notes the Fourth: Not beta'd, so there may be some tense shifts, misspellings, etc, and I want to get it out now, so it's not too late! So, I apoligize in advance for the mistakes. They're all mine, so you can throw stones if you'd like.

Summary: 2 months after Buffy's death, the Scoobies have drifted apart. Dawn is in LA with her father, Willow and Tara are in Seattle and part of a coven, Giles and Anya are in England running a sister shop to "The Magic Box". Spike and Xander, having become friends, are in LA to watch over Dawn, even if she doesn't know it. Spike and Xander are in a relationship.

Warnings: Angst, schmoop, character death, philosophical discussions in the middle of the night.

Thanks: To EBW, who, while not inspiring this fic, brought me out of my depression of not being able to write anything decent. Also to Diurnal Lee, I'm sorry this is late sweetie! Hope it is worth it! Sorry there's not a lot of action/adventure and hope that you like it anyway!

Feedback: Makes me do the Snoopy Dance!

Xander woke to an empty bed, which was an unusual occurance. Normally his lover would be wrapped around him tightly, arms and legs intwined to such a degree a bystander wouldn't be able to tell where Xander ended and his lover began.

A quick hand over the space beside him told Xander that he had been alone for awhile.

Xander sat up, streching his arms above his head to try to rid himself of some just awoken twinges. He peered around the room, hoping to spot his beloved in the shadows, but the room proved to be empty.

Reaching for the pair of lounge pants hurriedly thrown at the end of the bed earlier, Xander pulled them on and tightened the drawstring.

"Sweetheart," he called as he headed for the darkened living room. "what are you doing up?"

"Thinking," a soft voice said from the direction of the wide glass window that overlooked the streets of LA.

Xander came up behind his lover and wrapped his arms about the slight figure. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." His lover leaned back against Xander, resting touseled blonde curls on a strong shoulder. "Was thinking about Buffy."

Xander said nothing, just held his lover and looked out at the rain pouring down on the cars below the building.

"Ever hear the story of what makes it rain?"

Xander blinked in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"My mother used to tell me that when it rained it meant the Angels were crying." The blonde turned in Xander's arms. "Do you think she's crying tonight, Xander?"

"Spike, Buffy is happy. At peace, finally. You know that, right?" Xander asked, brushing Spike's tears away.

Spike sighed. "I know." He rested his head against Xander's chest. "But sometimes I wonder. What if she's scared, or lonely, or-"

"Spike, there's no way we can know that." Xander placed soft kisses on Spike's face. "But we can hope that she's in heaven with Joyce. If the Powers that Be have any sort of heart, she's there."

Spike snorted. "You know how I stand on the Powers That Be..."

"Yeah, yeah, I know. They're a bunch of poofs and need to get their curlies straightened."

"Damn straight." Spike was silent for a few moments and then said, "So you really believe that Buffy is in heaven? That we did the right thing stopping Red from bringing her back?"

"I know we did." Xander smiled slightly. "You ok?"

"No. But I will be." Spike leaned up to kiss Xander gently.

Xander smiled against Spike's lips and murmured, "You will be."

The kiss grew longer, wetter until both were panting for breath.

"God, I love you Spike," Xander whispered when the broke apart.

Spike's eyes grew wide and he blinked a couple times before wrapping his arms around Xander's neck and kissing him fiercly. "I love you, Xander. I love you so much!"

"Let's go back to bed," Xander said, eyes half lidded, dark with desire.

A long time later Spike lay with his head on Xander's chest, with Xander tracing soft patterns down his back. Xander was enjoying the almost sub-vocal purrs coming from the blonde.

"You're purring," Xander whispered, dropping a kiss on Spike's head.

"I'm happy." Spike raised his head to look at Xander. "And you're making me talk like a bleedin' chit. Go to sleep Pet. Early morning tomorrow."

"You mean today."

"Go to sleep whelp!" Spike closed his eyes and feined sleep.

Xander laughed and gathered Spike closer as they fell asleep, twined together as always. As they would be forever.

Thanks so much! I thought I needed to have Spike be somewhat snippy, what with all the girly tears earlier, lmao!
